Our Story,
our Mission

The SWB collective creates musical productions in collaboration with charities that have similar objectives to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals to bring peace and prosperity for people, wildlife and the planet. To initiate the project, we are proud to launch our first production: "The Herd", in collaboration with the NGO "Elephants Without Borders" (EWB).

“As this is the first collaboration of the project, we chose the name, Sing Without Borders inspired by EWB. They originally chose “without borders” due to elephants traditionally roamed the African continent, borders and passport free, despite human delineations of the landscape. Elephants were fluid in their movements, influenced by the seasons and environmental conditions.

Song and music is like that…  fluid across all cultures and transcends the imaginations of those that listen and are inspired. Even, animals appreciate music! We humbly hope, with help from our music and productions, to create connections and inspiration between different people, cultures, dreams, experiences, inspiration and actions.”

The Sing Without Borders project was visualized during the production of "THE HERD.” It started with a song, composed by Alessio who was inspired by a documentary film called “Elephants”, a story of a single family of elephants during their annual migration through the Kalahari desert across Botswana. Margherita, also inspired by the film, agreed to oversee the audio production and to add related video content. Francesco and Margherita, together, wrote the lyrics of the song, focusing on the unique family connection of an elephant herd, how they care for, protect and persevere together. The song was inspired by elephants characters, their behaviour and actions give us Hope.
Exploring options while reviewing the documentary, they discovered that there was an advisory scientific team connected to the film, an organization based in Botswana, Elephants Without Borders (EWB). Therefore they wrote to the organization, proposing a collaboration for the team to act as ambassadors to EWB’s initiative by producing a video  of the song now named “The Herd”. EWB's co-founder, Kelly whole-heartedly agreed to collaborate and contribute to the production.
With the help of EWB’s Izzy and Pro, they agreed to translate the lyrics into Setswana for words to be used in the production and chorus. So, during the Covid quarantine time, the group recorded all the choir sections with Flowing Chords and ultimately started the audio and video production. We are now excited to share the completed production, "The Herd" with all of you.

THE STORY OF THE SONG

Elephants Without Borders

Elephants Without Borders is a charitable organization dedicated to conserving wildlife and natural resources; through innovative research, education, and information sharing with all people, we strive to encourage mankind to live in harmony with wildlife and the natural world.

The African elephant is an ambassador for conservation, providing motivation for raising awareness, stimulating action, encouraging funding for conservation efforts, and generating opportunities to reconsider the boundaries between conservation and rural development. EWB’s vision is conservation of Africa’s wildlife through research and education, ensuring a prosperous and compatible future between people and wildlife.

Short stories about the calves

Boipuso

"was rescued due to a tragic incident that took place, where she was intercepted at a local tavern and harassed by patrons of the bar. At only 2 months old, she was confused, lost and no one knew the whereabouts of her mother or family herd. She had several bruises and cuts, but after two months of intensive care, she fully accepted the team and has become the center of everyone’s attention, including the calf herd. She is very clever, learning quickly from the other elephants. We are very pleased to see her grow and develop and has doubled her weight in six months under our care!"

Molelo

molelo.jpg

Rescued from a bush fire in the Okavango Delta, at only a few months old, Molelo’s condition was critical and suffered from severe dehydration and had burns on the bottom of his feet and across his body.  He spent more than two weeks at EWB’s Conservation Ecology Research Station in the delta as he adapted, and until a vet could determine if he was well enough for us to fly him to our Intensive Care Unit in Kasane. Molelo is appropriately named, as its the Setswana word for “fire!” After several months of rehab, Molelo fully recovered, and now is a healthy, playful, charismatic young bull. Our “water baby”  loves splashing around in the orphans’ pools… and has won the hearts of all of us that care for him.
